Diabetic, swollen ankle, painful, applying gel, compression badge. Solution?

Hi my father is a diabetic and we are on holidays in Spain at the moment. Out of nowhere yesterday his ankle started to swell today it has swollen a lot more and he is in great pain. We have been putting ibrofen gel on it and have compression bandage . Can you help is there something we are missing? He doesn t want ice on it due to being diabetic his feet get very cold .

Check wether he has got any hairline fractures or sprain. if it is sprain then give him any antiinflamatory drugs with analgesics only( if his Renal function tests are normal). if it is a hair line fractur or something else dont go for compression bandage as it might can lead to compartmental syndrome.
