Diabetic, Changed Tablet, Using Glimy M2, FBS Improved And PPBS Gone Up. Reason?

I am 46 years old.

I am diabetic.

Initially I was taking Glycomet GP2 Forte by UBS, one tablet per day for last 5 years. My FBS was around 105 & PPBS was 160-170.

Now as per advice of doctor, changed medicine to Glimy M2 by Dr.Reddy twice daily. Now the FBS has improved to 88 but PPBS has gone up to 240.

Now what should I do.

Hello,
Both the medicines are almost same and there is difference of quantity of metformin only.
In fact this is quite natural process where oral anti diabetics specially sulfonylureas loose their efficacy gradually over a period of few years.
This ihappens because of gradual destruction of beta cells of pancreas which are responsible for production of insulin, which ultimately controls the blood sugar levels.Ultimately a stage is reached where all the beta cells are dead and person has to switch to inj.insulin for control of blood sugar levels. However there are various newer class of oral antidiabetics are available which can still control your blood sugar levels effectively for few years more.
You must consult your doctor and get your prescription of oral anti diabetics revised so that blood sugar levels can be controlled effectively.
You must always remember that you have to control your blood sugar levels meticulously to avoid various types of future micro as well as macro vascular complications.
Observe strict dietary control and do regualepr aerobic exercises for 45 minutes a day.
Best of luck
