Diabetic. Diagnosed With Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura. Taking Steroids. Can You Give Some More Info?

My mom is 63, and is diabetic. She was also diagnosed with ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura) a few years back. She has to take steriods regularly to bring her platelets back to normal. The intake of steriods drastically shoots her sugar up. Its kinda getting outta hands. Dunno what to do.... Also, some people recomended spleeectomy (removal of spleen surgically) - can you throw some light on that too..??

She is on steroids for ITP and this increases her blood sugar level.
This is a very tricky situation.
The steroids should be given in the shortest therapeutic dose possible.
Regular monitoring of blood sugar with insulin therapy to control hyperglycemia.
