Diabetes, Menopausal, Abdominal Pain, Mucus With Blood. Addicted Smoker. Had HRT. Is This Normal?

I am 53 years of age. Type I diabeties for 30 years. Menopause at age 41. Take HRT for the last 10 years at least. Addicted smoker. Have abdominal pain similar to period pain but not severe. After morning urination have mucus with blood, but at no other time during the day. Has only been for the last few days however mucus at that time is normal for me but without the blood, is this normal?

Dear Lady,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM. I fully understand your concern and will try my best to solve your problem.

From the sketchy description, I assume that mucus+blood discharge is in the urine. It is likely that you have Urinary tract(cystitis) infection, particularly urinary bladder. In that event, please get your urine RE/ME and Culture done at the earliest.

However, if the discharge is of vaginal origin, there is likelihood of bacterial + fungal infection in vagina and uterus. In that case, you should seek immediate consultation from a qualified gynaecologist.

Please remember that occurrence of infections, particularly urine infections, is very common in diabetics.

I will prescribe appropriate treatment once I hear from you along with the reports of advised investigations. In the meanwhile, PLEASE ENDEVOUR TO KEEP YOUR BLOOD SUGAR UNDER IDEAL CONTROL.

Looking forward to your reply,

Fond regards,

Dr. Karanwal
