Developed Ventral Hernia After Surgery For Perforated Stomach From H-pylori, Burning Sensation. Is It Adhesion ?
My brother has recently had surgery for perforated stomach due to H pylori. He developed ventral hernias after the surgery and has had them repaired with insertion of a mesh. He is 8 weeks post op and he has a burning sensation that runs transversely above his incision.. My question is could this burning be to adhesion formation or what could the possibilites be. He doesn't have pain perse and does have an appointment with his surgeon next week...just very concerned.
Every abdominal surgery brings a risk of adhesions. Stomach perforation causes abdominal cavity inflammation due to stomach contents presence outside the stomach. Such inflammation for sure leaves lots of adhesions in the abdominal cavity. So the risk of adhesions is quite high. Burning sensation in the incision area can be caused by adhesions indeed. However more probable is wound fluid accumulation or even mesh infection. And as mesh infection is serious condition, I suggest your brother to have it checked right away. Especially if the incision area is swollen and tender.
Hope this will help. Regards.
