Dent Or Hole In Hand, Painful. What Is Wrong?

Hello, Whenever I bend my left wrist down in a ninety degree angle there appears like a little hole or a dent in my hand and then to the left of the little dent is a small bump. It is Sore to bend it either way and sometimes I just get a pain in my wrist that just shoots up into my hand... This happens maybe once or twice a day sometimes every other day. I want this problem with my wrist to be a real problem before I go to the hospital because money is kind of tight right now and It needs to be serious. Please help and share with me what your opinion in the subject is? Thanks

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the description, I suspect that the small bump is a Dorsal ganglion cyst of the wrist which typically presents with a dent adjacent to it.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about this, as it is a benign condition and is generally harmless. No specific treatment is necessary.

If it is painful or producing restricted movements of the wrist, temporary use of analgesics like Advil or Aleve will help in reducing the pain & inflammation.

If it is bothering you much, then a surgical excision may be indicated.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
