Hallow Dear,

Birth control pills are very good for delaying the period. These pills have to be started in one a day dose at least 7 days prior to the expected menses. Continue the pills till you are OK to have menses. After discontinuing the pills, within 4-7 days you should get the withdrawal bleeding.

In fact, the exact timing of this withdrawal bleeding cannot be predicted; hence better take the pills till you are ready for menses.

Considering your requirement of postponing the pregnancy for few years, I would suggest you to start the birth control pills regularly from the day 2 of the next menses. Continue this pills cyclically till you are ready for the pregnancy. It will serve your both the purposes - delaying the period and contraception.

I hope this helps you.
