Cramps In Legs, Red Marks On Ankles, Sensitive To Touch. Causes For Symptoms?

Hi my partner ran a marathon today and suffered cramping in his legs in the last few miles and afterwards, he now has an unexplained red mark on his ankle which isn t raised or sore at all, just sensitive when he touches it. Could this be related to the cramping? He cannot think of hurting himself and it doesnt look like a bite or sting. thanks
