Could viral respiratory infection be the cause for elevated heart rate?

I have a viral upper respiratory infection -diagnosed by Urgent Care MD 2 days ago. Had chest X-Ray; not pneumonia. My pulse was elevated at exam (was 92, normally around 64). Could my viral infection have caused my elevated heart rate? Did not know there is a charge for your answer. I will call Urgent Care and ask tomorrow

Welcome To HCM
This is Dr Amit. As per my opinion in in addition to respiratory infection the main reason for the elevated heart rate is nervousness, panic attack and/or fight and flight mechanism as you were in the hospital in front of doctor. I will advice you to take deep breaths, be cool calm and take proper rest. If it remains elevated for long time seek medical advice
