Could The Swollen Sore Bump In Underarms Be Something Serious?

Sore bump under armpit had a smelly discharge when I messed with it. Now its really swollen and red all around. I circled it with a sharpy and the redness went out of it overnight. I have a past with mrsa but not sure if swollen gland or not?... what should I do?

Hi,

It seems to be a furuncle. I would recommend you to take a course of oral and topical antibiotic. I would recommend you to take tablet cephalexin 500 mg twice daily for 7 days and apply fusidic acid cream on the affected areas. For pain and swelling take tablet ibuprofen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, Dermatologist
