Could the excess sebum production on scalp leading to seborrheic dermatitis be prevented?
is there any permanent cure to stop excess sebum production on scalp which is causing seborrheic dermatitis(yellow, sticky never ending dandruff, continuous scaling even after shampooing with ketoconazole) on my scalp and excess hair loss. lost almost 80% of my hair
Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp is a remitting and relapsing condition.
For severe dandruff not completely controlled by ketoconazole shampoo, I usually prescribe a topical steroid lotion twice daily for 2 weeks or so, which works wonderfully well following which it can be discontinued.
If i was your treating doctor I would have asked you to continue with the regular use a ketoconazole based antidandruff every alternate days for 2-4 weeks followed by once weekly or twice weekly for maintenance.
Certain other medicated shampoos can be tried, like the one containing ciclopirox olamine, Sertaconazole OR coal tar+ketoconazole shampoo Or ketoconazole+salicylic acid based shampoo. These can be obtained on prescription of a dermatologist.
