Could Stress Cause Tightness In The Neck?

I've been under alot of stress lately and have noticed a tight feeling in both sides of my neck (today). The other day the tightness was just on the left side. When I'm relaxed I don't have this feeling. Could this be related to stress only? Right now, I also have a headache and also took aspirins yesterday for a headache. I have no dizzy feeling and I don't feel like I'm going to faint. I haven't been getting alot of sleep lately, but not because of the tightness, just because of the responsibilities that I have. I think by the end of the year my stress level will be under control, but right now, I just want to make sure it's only stress. Also, my blood pressure is always good (100/69). No high cholesterol, non-smoker, drinks occassionally, in general good health, 47 year old African American Female.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much. The condition you are pointing your fingers at, is due to stress and anxiety. Jaw muscles and neck muscles flex during stress and we tend to stretch these muscles during stress period. Such stretch elongates the muscles repeatedly and the muscles becomes sore and start aching. Relaxations gives relief. You need to learn to live with stress. Meditation helps.

If you require more of my help in this aspect, Please post a direct question to me in this website. Make sure that you include every minute details possible. I shall prescribe the needed psychotherapy techniques which should help you cure your condition further.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck.
