Could Spotting While Taking Sprintec Birth Control Be An Indication On STD?

I started sprintec birth control last month on wednesday feb 12th (i did the first day of my period start), I was supposed to start my white pills last week March 5th but i decided to skip them and just went straight to my 2nd pack. about a week and a half ago i noticed some light brownish discharge and it progressed to darker brown and jelly like and also got a little heavier. I used a tampon and noticed a little bit of red blood as well. it was only heavyish for about 2 days and went back to being light. it is still going on and is mostly just notable when i wipe after using the restroom and it seems like it may be spotting. is this normal, could it be a symptom of an STD?
