Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Sleeplessness And Manic State Be A Side Effect Of Olimet?
Please can you advise me, my mother in law from India was given Olimelt 2.5 and she seems to be worse. She was in India and is now back in Bahrain with no supervision. She is elderly and quite frail. She has manic times and doesn't sleep. She doesn't eat or bathe, she thinks the world is going to end and that her son is going to die. Is this a side effect of this medication.
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
I understand that you are quite concerned about your mother's problems. Now, Olimet (Olanzapine) is an anti-psychotic medication which is used in the treatment of psychosis and mania. It also has sedative properties.
It is very unlikely that the medication Olimelt is the cause of her sleeplesness and "manic" states. From your description it appears that she may be having active psychotic symptoms. So, I would advise you to take her a psychiatrist for a detailed evaluation and further help.
Wish you all the best.
