Could Severe Itching Be The Side Effect Of Lidocaine?

My 15 year old daughter got sunburned yesterday and has had severe itching in the area of the burn. Most of the area she says itches is not even pink from the burn today. We used solarcaine, topical lydocaine last night and today. Could the severe itch be a reaction to the lydocaine? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi dear !
Its your Physician to help you out. I have read your querry very carefully & in detail. I have a years long experience to treat such patients successfully and I want to reassure you that there is nothing to worry.
Not usually but may be an acute reaction to Lidocaine if she has never used Lidocaine before.
In my view its due to sunburn in the first place not Lidocaine. Even though it may be due to sunburn I recommend you to stop using Lidocaine. Add an allergy tablet Fexofenadine 60mg 1daily for 3 days.
It will all go away in that time. Say her to take plenty of fluids, use spf60 sunscreen lotion on exposed areas of skin before going outside. Use umbrella.
Hope your daughter gets better soon. I am confident that my opinion HELPED you today.
Regards:-
