Could Seizure Medication Cause Teeth Problems?

I have been taking Lyrica and other seizure meds for peripheral neuoPAthy for severla years, Now i am having hell to pay in my mouth. i currently have a tooth that needs to be pulled, i have also had root canals and cavities over the years,,my oral hygiene has always been good, i never had decay prior to this medication. is it a prooven that seizure meds cause tteeth problems? is there any medication i can take in its place

Hello,
Yes, you are correct certain medicines for seizures may cause dental problems and the most common of these is Phenytoin sodium which very commonly used medicine.My suggestion apart from mentaining teeth hygiene you must regulary visit a dentist for cleansing your teeth or if any other associated problem.
Second thing dont stop using any medicine without consulting your doctor as it can be harmful to you.Lets discuss the problem with your doctor so that he can think of other alternatives to this medicine considering the history.
