Could Regular Intake Of Benadryl (antihistamine), As It Relieves Burning Mouth Syndrome, Cause Dizziness?

My mother,69, has had burning mouth syndrome for years. She takes Benadryl twice a day for this as it seems to help. She has had sporadic esophageal spasms once every few months. Also every few months she has times where she is lightheaded for a few hours that gets worse until she just goes to sleep. She does not get sweaty or flushed, just off balance. Then she feels better after a few hours of sleep. Low blood pressure runs in family. She will not go to the dr. Could the dizziness be caused by the antihistamines?

Dear Friend.
Yes anti histaminics , benadryl can cause dizziness. Also they cause dizziness indirectly by sedation.

Concern is that your mother is an old lady , you never know that this dizziness is because of some heart problem or stroke.

It's your duty to force her and convince her for evaluation. She needs ECG and other tests.

As far as your query is concerned , yes anti histaminics can cause feeling of dizziness.

Stay Healthy.
