Hello and welcome to HCM forum, Thank you for writing to us, After reading through tour query it seems that yes the swelling along the gum line is most probably from a viral infection. Viral infection is self limiting and the swelling with related symptoms should disappear in about 7-10 days, until then drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated and eat healthy. With the advise of your doctor you can take painkillers if the pain is intolerable. I hope this answer will help you.
Thank you I wish you good health Take care.
