Could Low Energy Level Be Related To Low BP?

My 86-year old mother takes blood pressure medication. Often she is lethargic (especially when she wakes even though she sleeps a good 9 hours) in the mornings. She is underweight for her size (5 0 95 lbs.) A couple times in the last two weeks, she has retired earlier than normal. Her last BP was 118/54. Could this low BP number be related to her occasional low-energy episodes.

Hello,

Low energy levels in the elderly is commonly due to illness and diseases like heart disease, thyroid problems, anemia, sleep challenges (lack of adequate sleep), emotional issues, low BP, low blood glucose, dehydration, etc. You are suggested to get your mother a general health check up done. Get all Blood workouts, Urinalysis, Imaging tests done. Get her treated of any pathology detected at the earliest.

In the meantime, give her home made nutritional food, fruits, berries, help her stay physically and mentally active. Help her stay from addictions if any, you can give her vitamin E supplements and also multivitamins for a healthy lifestyle.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
