Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Low Diastolic Blood Pressure Impair Blood Circulation To Brain And Cells?
If diastolic Blood preasure is below 60 , would'nt 54 impair circulation of blood flow to the brain & cells in your body? 86 yrs concerned w/ low diastolic
preasure & memory health. I guard my memory & try to protect it w/diet & games. So far so good.
Dear Sir Thanks for your query. As circulation in brain is maintained through certain reflex mechanisms, only moderate to severe degree of sudden change in blood pressure can effect the flow to brain. The brain adjusts the flow for its needs depending upon your long term average pressure, mostly irrespective of absolute values. Hence 54 or 60 mmHg diastolic BP will not impair circulation if it is so for many months. Sincerely Sukhvinder
