Could Lateral Epicondylitis Be To Excess Working With Computer?

I have been diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis, which was orinigally accpeted by my employer s insurer as a work related injury, after two years they are now trying to say it couldn t be work related because of my profession. I work in a very busy call center, using a mouse and a computer all day anywhere between 8-10 hrs, I would make many hundreds of mouse clicks a day, very quickly as everything I do is timed. I need access to information or research written my medical doctors to confirm that computer work can indeed cause RSI.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Yes,lateral epicondylitis could be due to excess working with computer. I advise you to do following things for treatment--

Icing the elbow to reduce pain and swelling.

Taking painkillers such as paracetamol or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ( NSAIDs)

Performing a range of motion exercises to reduce stiffness and increase flexibility.

Wear tennis elbow brace . It may help to give support and protection to your elbow until symptoms ease.

You should also get shock wave therapy. It help to promote movement and relieve pain may sometimes be recommended.

If all measures fail then get cortisone injection at most painful site.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
