Could Irregularity In Menstrual Cycle Be Caused By Stress?

My 25 year old daughter's menstrual cycle is a little messed up. About 5 years ago she suddenly missed a period for no reason. Then went back to normal, only for her cycle to get longer and sometimes shorter. Then this year she missed another period and sometimes bled for 2 weeks. Blood Tests and ultrasound did not show any abnormality. What could be causing it? She is a very anxious young woman, has a very demanding job..could all this really be down to stress?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
Yes irregularity in menstrual cycles could be caused due to stress. Excessive stress cause hormonal imbalance & therefore causing irregularity in menstrual cycle. Also you have been undergone Blood Tests and ultrasound, which rules out any other abnormality to cause irregular periods.
You should now relax as your all tests have been normal. You could start a birth control pills, if you are having very irregular cycles under prescription of your gynaecologist. They could be helpful to regulate your cycles.
