Could I Be Pregnant With Delayed Periods?

Hi, I m 17 years old and had my first time on 22 February (my period that month was on 3 February). It was protected sex and we used a condom, he pulled out as well and we filled the condom with water afterwards to check whether it had split, which it hadn t. I then had my period as normal on 4 March and this lasted for 5 days as usual. However my second period hasn t arrived yet it was supposed to arrive just over a week ago. My periods are usually very regular, I haven t been ill or dieting or losing weight. However, it is around exam time and I have been quite stressed recently and having a late period is making me even more stressed and I am now freaking out that I am pregnant! After doing a bit of online research about early symptoms of pregnancy I think it may have had a placebo effect on me where I feel as I m bloated and tired for no reason, but I haven t had any abdominal pains, nausea, heightened sense of smell, headaches or feeling sick. Could you please tell me whether there is a high chance of me being pregnant? Thank you.

Hi,

There is no chance of being pregnant in the current scenario since you had a normal period after the intercourse.

Stress seems to be the most likely reason for your delayed period. Just relax and wait for your cycle to onset.

You can get a urine pregnancy test to relieve your stress. If the period is delayed by more than a week, please see your health care provider for further help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shanti Vennam, OBGYN
