Could Having Cold Or Exposed To Loud Noise Cause Blocked Ear With Constant Whistling Sound?

My right ear feels blocked, and in my left ear I hear a whistling sound when people speak or when I hear most noises. This is the 4th day. Have been taking Claritin-D and tried Neti Pot thinking it may be due to allergies but nothing helping. Had a cold two weeks ago. Was exposed to very loud noise on Thursday. Not sure if any of these would be factors.

Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic

I have read the query and understand your concern, the tinnitus(whistling in ears) is most likely due to residual ear infection as your right ear is also blocked.I usually suggest my patients in such conditions:

1.An antibiotic like tab.Augmentin for 5 days for eliminating the residual infection with an antacid like tab.pantoprazole to avoid acidity caused by antibiotic.

2.Continue Claritin-D and Neti Pot for relief of cold.

3.I suggest an immediate appointment with an ENT specialist for his expert opinion about an audiometry examination to rule out tinnitus due to other reason like loud noise.

Hope this solves your query.

Kindly rate my answer if you find it helpful.Feel free to ask any further queries.Take care.
