Could Gardnarella Infection Effect The Fetus In Pregnancy?

Hi - I am 30 yrs of age - pregnant on 3rd pregnancy at 32 wks, first child died 27 days after birth from undetected vasa previa - was also supposed to be a set of twins but one never developed in utero. Second child is alive - both were emergency sections though I was awake for the child who is now alive. I am concerned as they found I have gardnarella - grade 3 - severe - am 32 wks gone and would like to know if I should be worried about the implications this could have on the placenta?? My labia was swollen and my body resisted canestan cream and pessaries. I have now been taking gyno-daktarin to clear it up. I also have married organs from the first section going wrong on me - they took a cyst off my left ovary on my 2nd section after the baby was delivered. When they tried to unstick my married organs I went into shock and they nearly needed to give me a blood transfusion as I lost 600 ml of blood. I also was shaking badly for the whole C section as the IV fluids didn t go into my vein correctly which meant I got a red line up my left arm afterwards signalling I had an infection in the arm from not getting enough IV fluids. I am worried cos my veins are so small that this could be an issue on this baby. Since this gardnarella infection is so severe - what possible implications could it have on the baby to be??? Thank you.

Gardenerella is a bacterial infection on the vagina that has some associations with preterm delivery, premature membrane rupture, and an increase in postoperative infections after gynecologic surgery. However, the correct treatment for this infection in pregnancy (in the Untied States) is an oral antibiotic called Metronidazole. I do not know if this medicine is available to you, but topical creams will not resolve the infection in late pregnancy. Gardenerella does not affect the placenta or have anything to do with the complications of your last delivery. I hope this answers your question and good luck with your pregnancy.
