Could Frequent Attacks Of Migraine Be Due To Zoloft?

I am 80 years old and pretty good in health most of the time. Still pretty active too with family in my same area where I live. I am taking Zoloft (50mg) for the 1st time for a calming, part anti-depressant medication. First week 1/2 tabl. and now since a few days 1 tabl. per day. However they seem to give me a migraine-type head-ache. I am a person with migraine from time to time but have that under controle with Naramig (like Immigran). My doctor doesn t really think that Zoloft would give me extra head-aches but the Medicine Information sheet I received from the chemist states to let your Dr know if a.o. you have headaches.

Hi.

I understand your concern.

Zoloft contain sertraline and it is SSRI.
It is working as antidepressant. It is also helpful in tension type headache. It wont cause migraine and it can be given up to 100 mg without such side effects.

Migraine or headache has different etiology and has many causes. Need to evaluate in detail to find out appropriate cause for that.

Analgesic can be given to reduce headache or propranalol can be given along with zoloft to reduce headache.
There are many good alternative medicines to treat it.

Take your doctors advise before taking any medicine.

I hope I have answered your question.
Thank you. Get well soon.
