Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Fatigue Along With Increased Appetite Be Due To Elevated TSH Levels?
I am 35 years old and I recently learned my TSH level was 6.49. Can you explain what this means. Also, could this be a reason why I am so fatigued, without energy, and have an uncontrollable hunger. I ve gained 33 pounds in less than 5 months and I am not doing anything different. If anything I stopped drinking sugary drinks and cut down on sweets. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.
A high TSH like yours indicates that you may have a low amount of thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone helps regulate cell metabolism, and so this could be responsible for your fatigue and weight gain. I would recommend you have your free T4 (thyroid hormone) checked to see if it is low, and if it is, you should be started on medication to supplement it.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
