Could Exposure To Black Mold From A/C Vent Cause Lung Problems?

I have had 2 positive D-Dimer tests in the past 4 weeks a positive VQ scan. We recently found out we have black mold in our home a/c vents. I have hx of asthma. Most recently an asthma like episode since April. My doc is thinking a CT scan is needed even though I am allergic to the dye to R/O Pulmonary Embolism. But, could this all just be from exposure to the black mold. I am 38 and over weight.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, chronic exposure two black molds can cause lung diseases like fungal pneumonia, bronchitis, ABPA (allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis) and pulmonary embolism.
Possibility of pulmonary embolism is less but it can be seen.
Your D dimer is also high along with positive VQ (ventilation perfusion) scan. Pulmonary embolism is commonly associated with high D dimer and filling defect on VQ scan.
So we should definitely rule out pulmonary embolism(PE) in your case.
CT pulmonary angiography is the gold standard test to confirm PE. So get done CT scan.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
