Could Dry Cough Be The Side Effect Of Olmezest 20?
Hello Doctoe, I am a post CABG. Eighteen yrs ago I underwent Angioplasty after a heart attack. Nine yrs ago I had CABG again after a second attack. I am non-diabetic but hypertensive. One week ago I underwent a thorough Cardiac Evaluation. All the parameters are normal. TMT was not done at present. However the TMT done last year same period had shown positive. I have been advised Prolomet 50 one daily, Aspirin 75mg +statin 10mg one daily, Flavedon MR two divided doses and Monotrate 20 one per day. Earlier I was also being given Ramistar but was stopped due to persistant dry cough. This time in lieu of Ramistar Olmezest 20 one per day has been added. After starting Olmezest 20 I have severe dry cough. Is it the side effect of the latter? What is the alternative? Kindly help.
These medications are not normally associated with a cough as a side effect though persons respond differently to medication.
It is possible that the cough is not related to medication but due to another cause. The most common causes of chronic cough are: post nasal drip, GERD, asthma
Post nasal drip is most common cause, some persons may not be aware of the drip. The use of a topical steroidnasal spray would help this.
If you have reflux, this is also a cause that is treated with diet changes and medication.
I hope this helps
