Could Constant Buzzing In Ears Along With Tiredness Be Due To Metoprolol?

why does the fda allow all these medicines to be prescribed when there are so many side effects? medicine is supposed to make you feel better not worse. I am on metoprolol along with warfarin for a fib and with this i have experienced about 80% of the side effects from metoprolol, especially being tired, dizzy and have a constant buzzing in my ears . I spend a lot of time in bed because I don t feel good and that is weighing heavily on me because I have always been very active and I cant stand the way I m feeling. I saw my dr on the 3rd of sept and he told me to stop the metoprolol. so I did the next day and about 3:30 pm that day my hear started racing. I checked it at 112 beats per minute so I took a half of metoprolol and laid down and it slowed to 76. my heart has not beat that fast in about two years and it is usually beating in the 60 s and sometimes in the 70 s. the dr said we might try bisoprolol if stopping the metropol doesn t work. im really scared and confused as to what I should do. im of the opinion if the disease doesn t kill you the medicine will. no one in my family had a fib. I also feel my heart pause for a second or two and then it starts up again. the dr said the pausing is benign and not to worry about that. I guess im really confused about what exactly is a fib. does your heart just race and what does palpations mean exactly. am I a candidate for the catheterization of the heart? my a fib is intermittent. my name is carol white and im 72. my email is YYYY@YYYY . thank you for your help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
sir
every medication has effects and side effects
its the effects which out weigh the side effects and preserve life which is the very reason why a medicine is given.
it is unfortunate that you have the side effects but please think of millions other who are benefiting from it
to keep your heart rate under control the medication is essential and you will have to may be bear with some side effect if not too debilitating, for the greater good.

alternative to metoprolol too will be of the same group of Beta blocking agent which will have similar effects
if you could upload your EKG picture and some more investigations that you have undergone may be we can suggest some alternativs which may be of use
