Could Breakthrough Bleeding Effect The Actual Bleeding?

I'm on the pill and I missed one day. The following day, I made up the missed pill and took the one for that day as well. I think I experienced breakthrough bleeding. This was one week before my period was supposed to start. Today is the day it should start and it hasn't yet. Could the breakthrough bleeding affect my actual period? I had the breakthrough bleed for about 5 days while still on active pills.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
I am Dr Nilajkumar Bagde and will be answering your question.

You have already experienced breakthrough bleeding and that too in substantial amount so it is unlikely that you will have a period now. However breakthrough bleeding is rare after missing just one pill, making up for it and still on active pills.

Other causes like hormonal issues and local lesions of the genital tract may also cause irregular bleeding.

Possibility of pregnancy and implantation bleeding cannot be ruled out if you have been sexually active.
As of now, I think that you get a urine pregnancy test done 7 days after the missed period with a first morning urine sample to rule out pregnancy. If it is negative, do not worry. Continue your pills and watch your next 3-4 cycles charting them in a calender or diary. If they are regular. There is no need to worry.

Thanks and regards.
