Could A Whiplash Injury Cause Cervical Spinal Stenosis?

I am 56 years old, 5 9 in height, 14st. About 6 years ago I had a car accident, I was a front seat passenger, stationary at a junction when a vehicle collided with the rear of our vehicle. I sustained a moderate Whiplash Injury. After a few months of pain, Whiplash symptoms got better. However about 6 months ago I started to get tingling in my left hand and in the toes of my left leg. My left leg also became weak and I could hardly walk. I have had an MRI scan, this has revealed that I have compression of the spinal cord in the Cervical neck area wich will require surgical intervention. I have been told it is Cervical Spinal Stenosis. Could this be as a direct result of the Whiplash I had 6 years ago?

Hello,

You had an accident six years back, but the present stenosis issue is more related to your professional related stress and continuous postures which causes narrowing and all the disturbances, it may also be because of improper sleeping habit that leads to the narrowing.

If the stenosis is severe then surgical correction of it is the only best procedure we have till date. Also, get checked your sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah
