I am 52 and last month I asked my doctor to run a thyroid level check on me because I have been extremely tired and have been getting headaches. I have hypothyroidism and have been dealing with it for about 10 years. Had surgery to have a goiter removed and the doc took the thyroids out because they were "mush" after 5 years of taking synthroid, however he did leave the para thyroids. So my current doctor did a full blood test panel. And the results were surprising, my thyroid levels were great but my cholesteral was high, high white cell count, and an elevated liver enzyme. Billirubin was normal. He wanted to run another panel in a month, however within 2 weeks I was experiencing different symptoms. I developed an extremely itchy rash on my feet and hands, which has now spread up my legs and on my belly, my urine is quite dark, and my GERD that I have had most of my adult life is getting worse. I went back to my doc yesterday and he ran another set of blood tests, including hepetitous took x-rays of my lung because the white cell count indicated an infection of some kind and after listening to my breathing thought it might be from there. And he is ordering a sonogram of my gallbladder. My question is, shouldn't the sonogram include the esophagus? I don't feel he is taking the complaint of my GERD seriously enough. Could GERD lead to cancer of the esophagus and then lead to liver damage?
