Cough, pain in head and ears after having had a run. Why?

Hello doctor, Am an athlete, last evening i was out for my regular practise ( running) and 1 had run about 2 miles. While returning back from my practise i had to cough and as i coughed i experienced a sharp pain along the side of my head..starting from my forehead to the portion above ear.. ( to be exact with the location the portion of head where the spectacle ear support piece rests). Later when i coughed ( wantedly) i experienced no pain. and today the same happened but the pain was very mild and it went away on its own.. Please let me know what has caused it and wat should be done

Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post suggest that you might be having Allergic bronchitis.

Management includes:
1. Antihistamine preparations like Allegra can be taken for symptomatic relief.
2. Montelukast, which is used as a maintenance therapy to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies & asthma.
3. Maintain adequate hydration & take a healthy balance diet.
4. Also make sure that you are well protected from cold, dust & other allergens.

If symptoms still persist, kindly consult a Pulmonologist for further evaluation.
Investigations like complete blood count, X ray chest will be helpful to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.

Wishing you a good health.
Thanks & take care.
