Cough And Sore Throat. Why Is The Child Lethargic?

11 year old daughter has been very tired not eating much for 4 days. She has just started coughing and has a sore throat . We went to see our family doctor and he did not seem to concerned he gave us a requisition for blood work. When we went to have blood work done yesterday, they could not find a vein and told us to come back Monday. She still is very lethargic today. hould I bring her to the hospital for blood work? This is very unlike her, she is rarely ill.

Dear friend, welcome and thanks for entrusting your query here at HCM!
I am Dr. Prasad Akole (Critical Care Expert- http://bit.ly/Dr-Prasad-Akole) and am glad to address to your query here.

The sore throat and cough indicate an upper respiratory infection.
It is common to have low appetite and lethargy during such episodes.

But we should take chances and miss anything serious like a beginning pneumonia.
Is she breathless, expectorating, having fever?

You may go to a hospital to collect her blood samples and get reports earlier and start appropriate treatment.

I hope you are fully satisfied with the guidance I gave.
I would be glad to answer any further queries.
Thank you and Good luck!
