Constant Cough, Congestion, Sneezing, Itchy Throat, Body Pain. What Should I Do?

In early feb I went to the dr for a constant cough and congestion. They put me on a z back. But I never fully got better. Now my cough is worse with sneezing , an itchy throat , body pain, bloody congestion, and headaches . All they tell me is that it ll go away an give me the same meds. But I m by myself with my 9month old son, so I can t afford to be sick. What should I do?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, there appears to be possibility of acute viral upper respiratory tract infection with associated allergic component.
Presence of body ache, sneezing, cough and throat pain suggests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ ENT surgeon and should go for thorough check up.
You should go for complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and chest x ray.
You should take complete antibiotic course, mucolytics, decongestants and cough suppressants.
Perform gargle three times in a day; a glass of lukewarm water with a pinch of salt.
Avoid cold drinks, oily food and yogurt.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
