Chronic Dry Cough And Flank Pain. Allergic Medication And Nexium Taken, Only Temporary Relief. GERD Suspected. Suggestions?
Hi, I have a chronic dry cough and sometimes bilateral flank pain. The cough is an annoying tickle in my throat. I have tried allergy medications and sometimes they help and sometimes they don't. I have also seen a pulmonary dr who said it could be chemical induced cough but he cleared me and suggested it was Gerd. I have no other gerd symptoms but I tried nexium and that didn't work. What else can it be?

Any chronic cough running for longer duration requires thorough assessment and reconsideration of symptoms. One of the cause of chronic cough can be gerd. It is important to investigate further and prove it as the cause of your cough. Just attributing the cause of chronic cough on gerd without clinical evidence is not advisable. Would suggest you to get complete haemogram, chest xray, upper Gastrointestinal endoscopy and barium swallow done Apart from drugs gerd also requires non pharmacological management like diet modifications and frequent small meals, weight reduction if over weight.
I hope it helped Kindly get back to me if you have any other query
