Chronic Prostatitis With Pelvic Pain Syndrome, Curable ?

About 5 yrs. back I suffered with burning micturition & increased frequency of urine. Antibiotics gave me relief but recurrence was common. Once problem was severe,(R.B.C. & pus cells were present in urine in high number) for which I consulted an Urologist of medical college who performed cystoscopy & took biopsy. High antibiotics were given, which took some time in controlling infection. All reports were normal. But after a couple of days problem of perineum pain started which increased in due course of time. Later I consulted one professor of same Govt Medical College, who again performed cystoscopy & prescribed drugs. No biopsy was taken this time & again all reports were normal. I took T. Alfusin & bladder relaxant for long time & antibiotics frequently. Prostate was of normal size throughout. Now my problem is that instead of urge to pass urine, some sensation of fullness & pain starts in the perineum which increases. After passing urine pain is relieved. Mostly it is difficult to pass urine in standing position & I have to sit & wait. Frequency of urine is increased.Last C&S of urine after prostatic massage was positive for E.coli. I am suffering with chronic Prostatitis with pelvic pain syndrome. Not taking any drug for it for last 10 months. Is it curable or not ?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have chronic Prostatitis secondary to chronic UTI.

Since bacterial flora change their sensitivity pattern please repeat your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefotaxime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.and later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

A daily prostatic massage by q trained health personnel will help to resolve the symptoms .

Please note that prostatitis takes long time to get cured hence you may need to take antibiotics for 6-8 weeks.

Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.
