Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Got my lipid profile back today. Doc says my triglycerides are optimal. My good cholesterol level is ok, but my bad cholesterol was 170 for a combined total of 230. Im only 34 so I didnt think I would have high cholesterol yet. How bad is this? And any suggestions? My doc told me they like it to be at 150 or lower, so I didnt think 170 was bad, she didnt want to put me on meds or anything, should I be scared?
It is a little high. You should try to bring it down without meds. Lose weight if you are overweight and start exercising.
Also cut down on high cholesterol foods. That means mostly animal fats. Avoid fatty means like bacon and foods with hydrogenated vegetable oil. Also cut down on high fat dairy like ice cream, sour cream, butter etc.
