Child With Stomach Ache, Vomiting, Less Bowel Movement. Is This Appendix?

Hi, my 5 year old son was sick a couple of times Monday night and has been complaining of bad tummy pains since. The pains seem to come anx go! We took him to a & e Tuesday night and they said they thought it was probably a bug! He was still waking every night screaming in pain so I took him to the doctors on Thursday and she said maybe a virus! He woke again just before midnight tonight In pain and when my husband push on his lower tummy to check his appendix he vomited! He is holding the right side more but he says he has pain both sides but more the right! He didn t poo for a few days in the week but went yesterday and today. Both doctors didn t think it was his Appendix. He hasn t eaten much all week but felt abit better today and ate more but is feeling awful again now. What do you think it could be? Thanks in advance

hi there, tummy pains in a five year old can be very difficult to diagnose as it could be some thing as simple as a gastroentritis or constipation or something more serious like appendicitis or intestinal obstruction. As parents your anxiety is understandable and I would advise you to give him some anti spasmodics and antacid for symptomatic relief and get an ultrasound abdomen, complete blood counts, and a urine exam done to rule out the common causes of stomach ache. If he is having fever along with the other symptoms then you will need to get him investigated without fail and keep a check on his pulse and hydration. Keep giving him small amounts of water. Hope the tests will point to some definitive diagnosis and he gets better. Take care.
