Child With Itchy Spots On The Back. Could It Be Contact Dermatitis?

My 10 year old daughter has a bumpy area of red itchy spots on her back (right shoulder blade). She has had the rash for 4/5 days and said she was rolling on the school field and something prickled her back. Could it be contact dermatitis and how do we treat this please? It was a small patch initially, however with scratching it has now spread to the side of the original patch, which has now scabbed.

Hi,

The skin rash you are describing will have to be examined closely. It is difficult to comment on it by mere history.

Contact dermatitis usually happens when something is a continuous source of irritation .In your daughters case this rash has come up in the last 4-5 days so contact dermatitis may not be the reason.

I would suggest you get her examined by a dermatologist so that diagnosis could be made and treatment instituted.
