Child With High Temperature And Pus Filled Swollen Tonsil. Difficult To Swallow. Tonsillitis?
My very fit active 13 year old has a temp of 38c and one swollen tonsil with pus spots over it. It is the size of a small grape, covering about a quarter to a third of her airway. She is having difficulty swallowing and is lethargic. Is this tonsillitis or quincys? We only get to see a nurse with a sore throat- it s not important enough for a gp - she has px penicillin V today Thanks
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Without physical examination it is very hard to say whether it is tonsilitis or quincys (peritonsillar abscess). Anyway the main cause of this is bacteria. In my opinion levofloxacin 500 mg / day for five day is the best drug. Antiseptic solution gargles will provide local relief, ( HOT SALINE ALSO). As far breathing problems , it may be due to allergy ( if sneezing, tears in eyes, mucus from nose present). If allergy consult a physician and get treatment. Good luck. Dr. HET
PENICILLINES ARE BEST CHOICE FOR THIS YOU CAN USE PENICILLINES FOR 3 WEEK ADD ANTACID TO COMFORT THE SWELLING IN FOOD CANAL ADD ANTIPYRETIC AND ANALGESIC FOR FEVER AND PAIN ANTISEPTIC MOUTH WAS GARGLES AFTER EVERY MEAL AND ADD ANTIALLERGICS TO REDUC THE ITCHING
