Child With Fever. Diagnosed Typhoid.Treatment Given. No Relief. Suggestions?

My 5 years daughter got fever on 07.05.13. I took her to doctor and he suggested some blood tests to diagnose malaria but it was not there. Rather there was some other infection. so he suggested ziprax for 3 days. thereafter, she was well after 5 days of fever and again she got fever on 16.05.13. again, i visited that doctor. he said this seems to be only due to heat. but again the very next day the fever was there, so i again went to him. then he investigated typhoid and she was suffering from typhoid with result something around 1:356. he suggested 10 chewable tablets, 2 for each day. she has taken course for 4 days but still fever comes again and again. suggest me something.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

The ideal treatment for typhoid is injectable antibiotics since it acts faster. The injectable course of antibiotics needs to be given till fever subsides and then oral antibiotics should be given for additional 7days.

Typhoid can be very notorious and and sometimes is resistant to antibiotics hence prior to starting the course blood culture and sensitivity should be done.In your daughters case you can continue with the medication and if in a week her fever does not subside then get her re evaluated by her doctor.

Regards.
