Child Taking Cremaffin, Laxopeg For Chronic Constipation. How To Control It With Diet? Can Hypothyroidism Cause Constipation?
hi. my son is 2yrs 3months old. he is suffering from constipation from last 6-7 months. staterd giving him cremaffin and laxopeg 10ml twice but then he had loose motions. so doctor asked to cut-down the dosage, from last 3-4 months i am givin my both these medicines 10ml each in the night, so he used to have motions every alternate day. after i lessened the dosage to 7.5ml after 2months he is again having problems in passing the tools. its very painful for him . i have hypothyroidism. when my son was born, on 7th day he was tested for the same and the result was negative. i read that hypothyroidism can also cause chronic constipation. is it true? so does he need to be tested again for thyriod? does milk cause constipation? is it advisable to completely stop giving him milk? what should be his diet?
Hi, Thanks and welcome to HCM. Hypothyroidism causes constipation. Excessive milk consumption also causes constipation. The medicines which you are giving are OK. Give him high residue and fiber containing diet. Avoid milk as far as possible. Better consult endocrinologist and rule out Hypothyroidism. Hope this answer will serve your purpose. Please feel free to ask any more queries. Take care. Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam.
