Child passing stool frequently. Prescribed Econorm. Suggested stool test. Normal bowel movement frequency?

Hi! My daughter is about 1 year old (13 months). She was passing stool 7-8 times a day a week back post which our Doctor subscribed 2 satchets of Econorm a day. The frequency has reduced but it is still about 4 times a day. Our doctor has now advised to get Stool Test done (Routine and Microscopic).
Is passing stool 4 times a day ok with 1 year old?

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

You haven't mentioned the stool consistency whether it is loose/ hard or formed.

Any how if stool is formed and normal nothing to worry. However if stool is loose then go for stool examination test which should include routine and microscopic including stool for reducing sugars/ fat globules.

As your daughter is about 1 year you must her with cow or buffalo milk and sometimes lactose intolerance or milk allergy can develope which may lead to loose stools.

Hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon
