Child Passes Stools Only On Using Suppository. What Could Be The Cause And Cure?

Good evening, I have a 4 year who s gonna be 5 in a few months. He s been having problems having bowel movements. I ve purchased laxatives to help in his process. But I feel like I shouldn t have to go through using them everytime he can t use the bathroom. It s my understanding that you should have a BM at least once a day, whereas my son is doing it 1-2 times a week and that s only with the aid of the children s suppository. Please help what can I or should I be doing here?

hi there, this problem has come to this proportion over a period of time and is due to inadequate toilet training and faulty diet. You will have to take initiative in correction of this condition now and as you have realised suppositories or laxatives are not the solution,.First of all his diet will have to be modified to consist of lots of fibers in the form of fruits especially papaya and banana, and whole meal breads rich in fiber. Cut down on all the refined and packaged ready to eat food. Juices also should be fresh rather than the tinned ones.Next comes the toilet training. Teach him to sit on the toilet for longer times and encourage him with positive re-inforcement to evacuate his bladder. It will be a slow process but you need to be patient and encouraging. Also encourage him to drink plenty of fluid in the day. Take care.
