Child Losing Weight, Eating Less Quantity. Frequent Bowel Movements, Loose Stools. Any Thoughts?

Hello, my ten-year old son seems to be losing weight. Always thin and highly active in multiple sports, I was not worried. But he's started to look unhealthily thin. He eats well--a good varied diet of mostly homemade meals--plenty of fruits and vegetables, minimum processed food. He used to eat a ton, I noticed he eats less now (two bowls of oatmeal for breakfast insted of three or four!) He also has reported frequent urges to defecate, but often not passing a stool. Also he does pass a stool more frequently, and it's usually loose (but not diarrhea) but no unusual color. This pattern has been going on for a couple months now. Thanks for any thoughts.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Good to hear that you give a very balanced diet to your baby. Please continue to do that.
Is there any blood or mucus in the stool?
Does he have any other associated complaints?

A stool examination will help to identify any infection.
Depending on the report further action has to be taken by your doctor after physical examination.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
