Child Having Small Blisters Around Anus, Passing Soft Stools With Mucous. What Could This Be?

We are out of town for a long weekend and are trying to avoid a trip into the local care center. My 25 month old has had extremely soft stools for a couple days with quite a bit of mucus in them. He also has some small red raised blister bumps around his anus . Will the BRAT diet or an anti fungal cream help? He just got over a cold, has a good appetite, and no allergies. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic,

Presence of mucus in the stool is due to inflammation of intestinal mucosa. The common cause of inflammation is infection. Red raised blister bumps around anus can also occur due to presence of bacteria in stools.

You can apply Siloderm ointment around anus after defecation. You should get stool of your 25 month old tested in a pathological Laboratory, and consult a pediatrician with report for proper treatment.

Hope you found my response to your query informative and helpful.

With good wishes,

Hi dear your out on a trip and your 25 months old baby is passing soft stool with mucus, nothing to worry your child has got got some infection of the gut,as your out on trip, that is the reason he is passing soft stool with mucus, give him a course of antibiotic like ofloxcin for three days ,he will settle dawn,as for as raised bluster bumps round his anus is concerned ,this also could be due to infection, and irritation, antibiotic along with local application of antiseptic cream will settle the rash,no need for anti fungal cream or BRAT diet

Hello and thank you for posting your query on HCM
You have mentioned that you are out of town.
Change of food, milk etc (since you are out of station) could lead to change in consistency of stools and presence of mucus.
Are you using diapers for the baby? The red raised bumps could be because of the fungal infection caused by diaper.
Keep the area dry and you can use an antifungal cream.

Hope my answer is of help to you.
Take care
