hello and welcome to HCM,

This is a very prime period in the development of your grand daughter and so if she is complaining of ear discharge then you must do these without delay as there may be many cause for he problem but the treatment should be prompt:
1. Get a complete ENT check up to know the state of the ear drum and also the general ENT work up
2. You need to also test her hearing which can be easily done by a test called the BERA and also OAE
3. Meet a speech therapist who can do an extensive assessment of her language and suggest measures to give her the best treatment possible
4. Make sure that her ears are always clean and dry but do not be very aggressive in giving antibiotics and ear drops
5. Avoid frequent head bath and do not meddle with her ears
6. Get also a psychological assessment to get to know her mental status

testing her for any syndrome will not make much change in the management except for fine tuning it. get the work up as soon as possible and start the process of speech habilitation

take care and all the best
