Child Has Red Rash Near Eyes After Swimming. Sunscreen Ineffective. Chlorine Allergy?

Afer swimming, my fair skinned daughter develops bright red sunburn looking rash around her eyes. Her eyes also burn badly. I have tried several different sunscreens, thinking a reaction or sunscreen in the eyes was the cause, but no luck. Could it be a chlorine allergy? We live in S. Florida so we swim a lot. Would goggles help?? Also, what can I put on the skin to soothe it so close to her eyes that won't irritate them?
Thank you,
L. Espitia

Hi Espitia,

Thank you for your query.

It is very difficult to say whether the rash is due to chlorine allergy or sunburn without having a look at the rash. It is always better to make your daughter wear swimming goggles while swimming. It shall give her some comfort.

You can apply a hydrating lotion or oil like coconut oil, etc. over the rash to soothe it. While applying lightly she should keep her eyes closed so that that the eyes are not affected.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.
